Inspired by Jim Bryant’s post over at Digital Photography School I have decided to embark on this 144 people project. I will photograph 144 different strangers with a 50mm prime lens. So far I am off to a slow start, it’s still kind of weird to approach someone and ask if you can take their picture, but that’s the point of this exercise, to get more comfortable approaching them about pictures.
The first two pictures:

I saw this couple while I was out eating with my roommates, and admired their style. The Rockabilly style has always been very interesting to me and this couple exemplified it very well so I approached them and asked if I could snap a photo. The guy said it was up to the girl and at first she declined because she hated getting her picture taken, I respected her decision and returned to my table. About a minute later she came up to me and said that she thought about it and since I asked I could take their picture. Snapped a couple photos thanked them and went on my way.
I am sick and tired of the publics perception of skateboarders as criminals, I frequently get hassled by law enforcement and security officers simply for riding my skateboard around. I am doing nothing wrong, I’m not grinding on curbs or jumping off of ledges, I’m simply skating around what is wrong with that, I’m not harming anyone, I’m not making a lot of noise, so why the hassling? It’s simply because I’m on a skateboard and it’s just ridiculous profiling. I can understand that sometimes where I skate is private property and the owners don’t want me skating there, fair enough but is it really necessary to treat me like a criminal? If they don’t want me to skate there, simply ask me to leave and I will leave because I have no say in the matter there is no need to give me attitude and be gruff and rude to me. I try and treat police officers and security guards with a measure of respect because they are simply doing their jobs, but some just insist on treating me like a hoodlum and troublemaker. I’m 20 years old, not some stupid teenager in high school that thinks he’s the shit, and I’d like to be treated that way.
Along these lines, the skaters that think that they always need to mouth off to cops piss me off. Talking back to the cops and security officers won’t do anything but continue to perpetuate their view that all skaters are troublemakers and should be treated as such. Being a douche bag to the cops won’t allow you to skate that spot, or open up more spots for us to skate, all it does is ruin spots for us. Blacks has been blown so many times by people just being douche bags to the cops as well as the pedestrians just enjoying a walk down to the beach. It’s this inconsiderate and rude behavior that ruins skating for the rest of us and causes people to look down on us. Get it through your thick skulls you idiots, you’re doing nothing but ruining skating for the rest of us, so shut your fuckin mouth and show them some respect, they’re just doing their jobs.
I don’t understand why people are so careless with their belongings, I see it all the time at school, especially in the library. People just get up and walk away from their Laptop, iPod, Cell phones, etc for extended periods of times with nobody else at their table. Why even take a chance with your belongings? I hear stories all the time of people getting things stolen because they didn’t lock them up. Things stolen out of the beds of pickup trucks, unlocked dorm rooms and cars, and boards stolen when they turn around. If there people were less careless with their things there would be significantly less theft at UCSD. These aren’t criminal masterminds that are stealing these things, they’re simply people that see unsecured and take advantage of that. In the immortal words of Gunnery Sergent Hartman: “If it weren’t for dickheads like you there would be no thievery in this world!”
Why do people insist on coming to the library, then talking with all their friends? I mean fuck this is a library, even if it is an active study area have some consideration for the people around you who are trying to study and read. On top of that why the fuck are you coming to the library to talk and socialize with your friends? Makes no sense to me, the whole point of you going to the library is to study in a quiet, distraction free environment. I can understand if you are all discussing a project or homework, but when you are just talking about parties and social activities, take that the fuck outside. The only time I can think of you going to the library to talk and socialize with your friends is if you’re talking about the strip club that used to be near my house, also called “The Library”
What really pisses me off is when people in my lectures/discussions ask stupid questions whose answers are apparent. Granted occasionally there are good questions but most of them are very stupid things that nobody else needs to know, nor cares about. We all know these people in our lectures that repeatedly ask dumb questions. When these people ask questions I see it as wasting my time in the lecture and slows the professor down from covering the material they need to cover. Professors and TA’s have office hours for this reason, so that you can go in on your own time and ask questions, not waste the class’ time with your stupid questions. Seriously shut the fuck up, put your hand down and stop wasting my time.
